Position Summary

The Research Foundation for the State University of New York at Buffalo seeks to hire an Academic Specialist within the department of Student Support Services ( SSS ). The Academic Specialist is responsible for providing and designing the delivery of many forms of advisement to students such as informational advisement, proactive advisement, appreciative advisement, and academic coaching services. The hours for this position are typically 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, however, the Academic Specialist occasionally must be available to assist SSS program staff in accompanying students during off campus visits and may require some evening and/or weekend hours. This position reports to the Director of Student Support Services.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field is required with one year experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in education-related field including work with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong preference for an individual from a background that is similar to the populations served by the Student Support Services Program.
  • At least 3 months experience advising populations served by the Student Support Services Program.
  • Previous TRIO experience preferred.
