Media Information Specialist
to join their team. The
University of Montana’s (UM) Marketing and Communications
department is responsible for communicating news and updates to the
campus community and external parties on a regular basis. This
position will primarily focus on internal campus communications. In
addition to managing UM’s internal communication portfolio, this
position also will assist with editing responsibilities and provide
feedback on communications practices with the rest of the UM
Marketing and Communications team.
The Media Information Specialist is responsible for the production
the University's employee newsletter, UM Today, as well as
regularly cadenced student and parent newsletters. In addition to
newsletter production, the position will be the primary liaison
with the President’s Office, Provost’s Office, and other campus
partners for communicating internal announcements. While producing
daily content for the institution's more than 10,000 students and
3,000 employees, this position also will be responsible for
measuring the engagement with internal communications and modifying
approaches in accordance with best practices. Ultimately, this
position will be primarily responsible for the UM internal
communications portfolio, and will coordinate closely with the
Strategic Communications Director, Associate Communications
Directors and UM writers, editors and marketers to produce content.
This position will be embedded in a dedicated team, and work
closely with colleagues to establish strong networks on campus,
along with staff in Marketing and Communications, the Admissions
Office, the UM Foundation, the Alumni Association and all UM
colleges and academic departments.
Minimum Required Experience
- Ability to write at a high level and compose clear, readable,
entertaining and compelling copy for UM employees and
- Ability to edit and knowledge of AP writing style.
- Ability to interview sources quickly and convert detailed
information into digestible write-ups that are essential for UM
employees and students.
- Ability to meet hard deadlines and work with cross-campus
collaborators on projects that both move quickly and are slow to
- Ability to learn how to resize photos and graphics needed for
- Highly developed organizational skills.
- High School diploma and two (2) years experience or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or a closely related
field, as well as at least two (2) years of directly related work
experience; or any combination of education and experience that
would provide the competencies required to successfully discharge
the essential duties assigned to this position.

Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday
through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Salary: $18.266/hr. Current employee’s rate of
pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation
