Job Description:
The Ethnic Studies Departments of the North Orange County Community College District are seeking a pool of part-time ethnic studies instructors to teach out of Cypress and Fullerton College. Please indicate if you are available for either location or if you have a preference for one college in the Supplemental Questions section of this application.

This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments will refer to the pool of applicants on file to fill temporary assignments as needed. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department or division be interested in scheduling an interview.

Teach courses including but not limited to introductory and history courses in Comparative Ethnic Studies, African American Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, Native American Studies, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Applicants that have one or more areas of expertise should indicate this in the cover letter.

Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, hybrid, online (synchronous or asynchronous), and may be at more than one location (Fullerton or Cypress campus and/or off-campus high school locations for dual enrollment) beginning in the Fall 2021 semester.

Instruct and assist in the retention and success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials, sound teaching methodologies, and critical pedagogies that are particularly effective with students of color and first generation college students.

Participate in department meetings and relevant professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in the ethnic studies field

OR

A master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area

OR

the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.


Desirable Qualifications:
Recent experience effectively teaching Ethnic Studies courses, in higher education.

Demonstrated commitment to the discipline of Ethnic Studies through involvement in academic, professional and/or community organizations and activities.

Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially marginalized and other disproportionately impacted students.

Experience using a variety of emerging technologies, including training and/or certification in online instruction.

Experience with innovative and creative course design, instruction and evaluation, including service learning.

Knowledge and application of the major epistemological considerations informing the discipline of Ethnic Studies, including relevant history and contexts of the field, contributing theories, and pedagogical approaches.

For those interested in teaching Native American Studies, graduate level academic training in Native American Studies and a record of involvement in and commitment to American Indian communities.
