The Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Student Success is a key
member of the senior academic leadership team. The Dean for
Undergraduate Studies and Student Success is primarily responsible
for the execution of strategic priorities including: Equity and
Student Success Initiatives; the General Education curriculum,
including Capstone courses; Discovery
Scholars; supervision of the Center
for Teaching and Learning, the Center
for Honors and Leadership, and the tutoring
and learning centers; and other priorities as determined by the
Provost. In addition, the Dean collaborates and partners with the
Provost, Vice Presidents and works directly with the Deans and
other members of the Provost’s staff on other programs, including
but not limited to: strategic student experience initiatives,
curricular and personnel issues, strategic academic plans and
policies, and the effective implementation of Vision
2028.
The Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Student Success will be an
accomplished leader with the extensive, high-level strategic and
innovative academic planning skills, academic and administrative
leadership, and budgetary experience needed to drive initiatives
that provide critical commitment and support of projects that
promote learning, innovation, and creativity.
Primary Duties
- Implements the Equity and Student Success Initiative funded by the Board of Governors. Oversees the entirety of the project, including the establishment of new courses, expanded tutoring, monitoring of program development across the colleges, and coordination of operations of other university departments such as enrollment management and the registrar’s office.
- Develops and implements the Journey student success initiative, working with other campus divisions, and across the CSU System including the Todos Santos campus. The Journey initiative aims to broaden the horizon of student experiences including impactful internships, study away and study abroad experiences.
- Establishes and monitors enrollment goals and student success metrics to identify successes and opportunities for improvements; This includes our satellite locations at Colorado Springs, Sturm and SPUR campuses as well as outreach to establish connections with high schools and rural community colleges.
- Implements the academic components of student initiatives including the Pathways Initiative. Works with student affairs, human resources and tutoring personnel on interpreting data to enable positive improvements in the engagement and experience of students, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborates with Central Administrative Units including Fiscal Planning and Budget, Enrollment Management, and Information Technology to define the operations plan for the launch of new programs.
- Supervises the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Center for Honors and Leadership, and the tutoring and learning centers; strives to improve student and faculty services, in all modalities, delivered by these entities.
- Represents the Provost at both internal and external meetings as appropriate; builds effective relationships across the university with students, faculty, and staff; communicates effectively on behalf of the Provost’s Office; enables a diverse and equitable work environment; and promotes a positive image of the academic administration.
- Serves on the Deans’ Council and other institutional standing and ad hoc committees. Represent the Provost and the academic interests of the University at campus and community events, as well as at national and international professional conferences and meetings; serves on appropriate student and academic committees.
- Advances the University’s ongoing commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce and to professional development for all members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate or other terminal degree from an accredited institution
- Record of scholarship and teaching commensurate with immediate appointment to the rank of associate professor or full professor
- Ability to work and communicate inclusively and effectively within a broadly diverse community of faculty, staff, students, alumni and external partners
- Ability to manage and drive projects and plans to completion and to influence others beyond span of control
- Minimum of five years in an academic administrative leadership position
- Experience working effectively and collaboratively with faculty and administrators across the spectrum of a higher education institution
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership skills and understanding of the changing higher education environment on both local and global scale
- Demonstrated commitment to staying current with emerging technologies, pedagogies, and best practices related to digital learning and online programs
- Experience with fund raising and attracting external funding
- Academic administrative leadership position at or above the Chair level
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning, research, community engagement, academic integrity, diversity and intercultural understanding, and collaborative and participatory decision-making
