Assistant Professor

The Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) assistant professor tenure-track position in the Exercise Science program. The Exercise Science program within Kinesiology is consistently ranked among the top programs in the country based on its innovative research activity and vibrant curriculum making it a preeminent place for the professional development of students and faculty. Building on this record of excellence, the goal of this search is to add a promising scholar to an internationally renowned team of faculty whose research interests focus on burgeoning areas relevant to optimizing the human condition, including the application of exercise, nutrition, and behavioral interventions on cardiovascular disease, cancer, aging, digestive health, military health, obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases, or related fields that synergize with the existing scholarly strengths of the program, and which align with major funding opportunities. We seek candidates with an excellent record of scholarship, teaching and service relative to the assistant professor rank and commensurate with a research-intensive university. Preference will be granted to candidates who are able to integrate basic science and/or applied science discoveries into interventions that improve health, who demonstrate excellence in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their research, teaching, and service agendas, and who offer evidence of sustained impact. Our current faculty have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and strong ongoing research collaborations with physicians and scientists within the Wexner Medical Center and the James Cancer Center as well as Psychology, Nursing, Engineering, and Sports Medicine. Our program also has numerous collaborations with external academic and research institutions and industry.

 

Candidate Expectations

Candidates will be expected to develop an independent and extramurally funded research program; contribute to a collaborative research team within exercise science, the department, college and university; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; mentor master’s and doctoral students; and provide service at the institutional and national level.

 

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or closely related field including, but not limited to, Physiology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry; demonstrated research productivity and evidence of, or strong potential for, an independently funded research program; demonstrated teaching competency; demonstrated interest in enhancing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in their research, teaching and service. Post-doctoral training is valued but is not necessary.
