Position/Title: College Assistant/Associate in Athletic Training

Full time, 9-month appointment, Non-Tenure Track

Department Description:    The Department of Kinesiology has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 450 majors, and provides Bachelors of Science degrees in Kinesiology (member of AKA and ERP through the NSCA), Dance, and Athletic Training (CAATE accredited). The department also offers a PhD in Kinesiology and anticipates a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training (2023). The department has active research faculty in exercise physiology, motor behavior, physical education pedagogy, sport/exercise psychology, and biomechanics. The department houses several labs, including biochemistry, motor behavior and sport psychology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, and pedagogy. Required Qualifications: The candidate must:

  1. A terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DAT or equivalent) in athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology or related filed is preferred, ABD and those with an earned Masters’ degree and substantial related experience with CAATE accredited programs will be considered.
  2. Be able to provide graduate instruction in the area of Athletic Training to potentially include general medical conditions, pharmacology, evidence-based practice, organization & administration, and AT research/statistics
  3. Have experience with accreditation/self-study reports
  4. Demonstrate experience with recruitment and selection of students for AT programs
  5. Current certification with the Board of Certification and eligible for New Mexico AT licensure

 

Preferred Qualification: Preference will be given to those candidates who:

  1. Has a well-defined contemporary expertise in one of the following areas: prevention and wellness, therapeutic interventions, standardized patient models of assessment or healthcare analytics.
  2. Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program
  3. Demonstrated potential for scholarship as defined by the CAATE 2020 standards.
  4. Evidence of previous clinical practice in athletic training
  5. Experience as an athletic training preceptor and/or coordinator of clinical education
  6. Experience in curriculum assessment and outcomes measurements
  7. Has excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  8. Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence with the skills and experience to work with diverse individuals

 

Position Responsibilities:  The Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation at New Mexico State University is seeking a dynamic faculty member to serve as part of the Athletic Training Program team. The full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track college faculty professor will assist in achieving the department’s mission of teaching, and service. The faculty must be able to provide graduate instruction in the area of Athletic Training including at least 3 of the following areas: general medical conditions, pharmacology, AT research, statistics, evidence-based practice, organization & administration topics.  Additionally, this position would assist in completion of necessary accreditation/self-study reports, conduct assessment of students and supporting activities geared toward the recruitment and selection of students for the MSAT program.  In addition, the faculty member will participate in faculty governance, strategic planning, curriculum review, student outcome assessment, and advisement of graduate students. The Athletic Training Program (ATP) currently prepares students with Bachelors of Science degrees in Athletic Training and is actively moving toward the transition to a MSAT program.  The successful candidate will report to the Department Head of Kinesiology and work collaboratively with the Athletic Training program director.  New Mexico State University is a Hispanic Serving Institution and seek candidates who are committed to serving our constituencies.
