Position Summary

The Pierce College at JBLM, Testing and Enrollment Specialist, supports a diverse military-connected population seeking testing and entry services to support their career and educational goals. The Testing and Enrollment Specialist guides this population through all aspects of the testing and enrollment processes and manages the fast-paced daily operations of testing centers located on McChord Field and Lewis-Main. They serve with a high standard of care, attention to cultural sustainability and equity principles, and use this knowledge to design, implement and assess practices to meet the needs of the population served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Testing Responsibilities
  • Provide holistic and culturally sustainable testing services to new, continuing and returning test candidates.
  • Participate in the ongoing planning and implementation of equitable placement policies and practices.  
  • Serve as main point of contact for multiple test platforms (College Board, PearsonVue, Public Safety, etc.) and other colleges and universities using proctoring services.
  • Maintain proctor certification for all tests administered (CLEP, DSST, PearsonVue, PST, etc.).
  • Conduct testing sessions and maintain the integrity of all testing materials as appropriate to the specific regulations.
  • Review testing schedule and practices each term and assess effectiveness in meeting needs of the community served; propose changes and improvements.
  • Maintain and review testing logs, sessions, reports and other documents as required.
  • Exercise independent judgement in interpreting and applying rules and regulations in compliance with various testing platforms.
  • Maintain testing center statistics including number of people tested, number of tests given and types of tests.  
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports.
  • Assure centers are equipped with materials and resources necessary to administer all testing sessions.
  • Update and maintain the test center process and procedure manual.
  • Assist students in navigating the different test platforms and provide excellent customer service to those individuals interested in testing.
  • Stay current on vendor platform changes in security and processes, and communicate changes to teammates and partners in the defined timeframe.
  • Coordinate technology upgrades with District IT and Director of Enrollment Services. 
  • Stay current on best practices in the field of testing and use information to recommend improvements in services.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop, implement and lead opportunities to increase standardized test utilization in targeted populations.
  • Create practices that inform and invite test candidates of credit-eligible examinations to explore options with Pierce College.
Enrollment Service Support
  • Contribute to an atmosphere that makes all students feel affirmed, empowered and valued, specifically our systemically non-dominant students.
  • Provide systematic communication with students through multiple methods, including district approved technology.
  • Provide general information to prospective students outlining courses, certificates and degrees available with Pierce College. 
  • Collaborate with the Admissions and Outreach specialists to develop practices that support test candidates through the admissions process.
  • Assist students in using and understating the class catalog and class schedule.
  • Maintain working knowledge about funding resources (Financial Aid, Military TA, MyCAA, etc.).
  • Assist with telephone support, referring calls to appropriate personnel for action, taking messages and managing voicemail box.
  • Schedule new and returning advising appointments for students. 
  • Assist with managing multiple email accounts.  
  • Provide information on policies and procedures for enrollment with Pierce College.
  • Participate in shared governance and/or department representation opportunities as appropriate.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on Education, Counseling, Psychology, Public Affairs /Administration, other related fields.
Required Experience
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally sustaining services and assistance.
  • One (1) year experience in providing excellent customer service in a fast pace environment. 
  • Experience working with electronic information management systems/database software.
  • Experience in providing effective referrals for students or clients.
  • Demonstrated experience working with privacy laws and confidentiality of information and records.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting individuals in problem solving, identifying needs and exploring options.
  • Experience in administering standardized tests.
Desired Qualifications (education/experience)
This position works primarily with a diverse military-connected population. We welcome applicants with experience in military culture, and/or a strong desire to work with military-connected students, students of color, single parents and second language learners. Candidates with second language skills, particularly in Spanish, Korean, and/or German are desired.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. The primary work location will be at Joint Base Lewis-McChord campuses but infrequent travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekend work, and occasional travel as required. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.  

Salary & Benefits
The starting salary range of this position is $3,294.00 - $3,792.00 a month (dependent upon qualifications), with annual periodic increments up to $4,398.00. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Physical Work Environment
This position works in an office setting on an active military installation. You may be exposed to loud noises due to proximity to the airfield and firing ranges and may be in proximity to uniformed personnel with weapons, service animals, or specialized military equipment.  In the office, you may sit for periods of time, or have frequent interruptions requiring you to get up and down to assist test candidates, students or visitors.
