The O’More College of Architecture and Design at Belmont University in Nashville, TN is seeking applications for an Associate Dean and tenure-track Associate or Full Professor beginning June, 2022.

The Associate Dean is a member of the teaching faculty within the College. In addition to teaching half-time in their area of expertise (generally, two courses per semester), the Associate Dean will report to the Dean and be responsible for coordination of diverse functions of the College with Department Chairs, including responsibilities from the following:

  • Coordinating course schedules
  • Organizing faculty searches and faculty orientation at the College level
  • Facilitating institutional assessment of College academic programs through the University’s office of Assessment and Institutional Research
  • Supporting faculty teaching through oversight of teaching needs in studios, classrooms, and the fabrications laboratory with appropriate University offices
  • Representing the College on various committees and task forces
  • Executing other general duties related to the administration of the College as needed and directed by the Dean
  • Supporting projects aligned with the strategic plans of the University and College

Additional responsibilities include collegial participation in collaborative settings, academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly and/or creative activity, and college and university service. Assignment of particular responsibilities will be made to emphasize the successful candidate’s areas of administrative interest and expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or other earned terminal degree appropriate to a discipline in the College or a related field
  • Ability to develop and support implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the College and University; ability to pursue teaching in alignment with the same
  • Capacity to contribute to College programs by teaching part of the curriculum, as appropriate to education, experience and expertise
  • Minimum of three years of university administrative experience as a program director/department chair, professional staff member or administrative team member; experience with significant service/committee work and other administrative assignments
  •  Accomplishment in teaching at the college level and awareness of teaching pedagogies in various disciplines represented within the College
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: curriculum, assessment, accreditation, enrollment management, service-learning, academic/vocational advising programs, diversity initiatives, ePortfolio initiatives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students 
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Evidence of working with diverse groups, including students, faculty, and staff
  • Experience with discipline-specific accreditation (e.g., CIDA, NAAB)
  • Firm grasp of the emerging challenges and opportunities in higher education

Preferred qualifications

  • Capacity to contribute to University general education program by teaching part of the curriculum (e.g. First Year Seminar)
  • Experience teaching within a liberal-arts and/or faith-based university

The O’More College of Architecture and Design (CAD) at Belmont University is a creative community that serves undergraduate students by providing professionally-oriented, liberal arts-based programs in Fashion Design and Merchandising, a CIDA-accredited program in Interior Design, and a new program in Architecture that is currently seeking accreditation by the NAAB. The facilities of the College include extensive studios that feature industry-standard equipment, flexible classroom/seminar space, a fully-equipped wood/model shop, and a digital fabrications lab.
