Essential job duties include:  

Develop, implement and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs and services as they pertain to collegiate substance use prevention; and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to collegiate substance use prevention

Provide individual student services as aligned with the department, such as but not limited to, Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS), Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP) and Wellness Coaching

Hire, supervise and manage various student staff and volunteers

Support data tracking and report development related to health promotion strategies, programs, and services; and support department grant funding and reporting

Contributes to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc)

Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered
  • Preferable experience in a higher education environment
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH)
  • Certified Prevention Specialist or Tobacco Treatment Specialist (or eligible and intent to become certified)
  • Experience with design and implementation of substance use prevention programs
  • Experience conducting assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions
  • Knowledge of the American College Health Association’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and the Healthy Campus Framework
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, population-based theories and models, and evidence-based health promotion programs/initiatives
  • Knowledge of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) College Alcohol Intervention Matrix
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and targeting substance use prevention initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of college students
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation)
  • Supervisory and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and assessment tools such as Qualtrics
  • Ability to analyze problems, conduct research, implement solutions; and to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks; ability to lift and/or move objects weighing 10 pounds or more, ability to carry boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Willingness to be an active member of at least one relevant professional organization
  • Maturity to satisfactorily discharge assigned responsibilities
