This position is a Health Promotion Specialist embedded in Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL). They will be directly supervised by the Director of SFL with a dotted line to GatorWell leadership. This individual will have an office space within SFL and support health and wellbeing among Greek students. 

Essential job duties include:  

Develop, implement and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs and services to best support the sorority and fraternity community; and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion in the Greek community.

Hire, supervise and manage various student staff and volunteers. Advise peer education groups focused on wellness.

Provide support for large-scale Greek programming and events, as well as operational needs of GatorWell and SFL.

Provide individual student services for the Greek community, as aligned with GatorWell, such as Wellness Coaching and HIV Testing.

Contribute to data tracking and report development related to health promotion strategies, programs, and services in the sorority and fraternity community; and support grant funding and reporting.

Contributes to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc)  

Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered
  • Preferable experience in a higher education environment;  Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH)
  • Certified Wellness Coach (or eligible and intent to become certified)
  • Experience with design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs, especially those in the sorority and fraternity community
  • Knowledge of the American College Health Association’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and the Healthy Campus Framework
  • Knowledge of NASPA and ACPA Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and targeting health promotion initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of college students, especially those in the sorority and fraternity community
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation)
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and assessment tools such as Qualtrics
  • Ability to analyze problems, collect data, implement solutions and to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community.
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks; ability to lift and/or move objects weighing 10 pounds or more, ability to carry boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Willingness to be an active member of at least one relevant professional organization
  • Maturity to satisfactorily discharge assigned responsibilities
