Director of Health and Counseling Services

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students in conjunction with the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Health and Counseling Services is a generalist psychologist/counselor and manager for the Health and Counseling Center Staff (which includes an Office Manager, Counselor and Campus Nurse). The Director is responsible for providing administrative oversight and direction for health and counseling services, provides direct service counseling, prevention and outreach programming, and consultation and collaboration on service delivery. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality, efficient, cost-effective, and coordinated health care for the undergraduate student community, which allows students to resolve or manage health related concerns so that they can attain their academic and broad educational goals. The Director of Health and Counseling Services with assistance from the Office Manager and Campus Nurse is also responsible for the effective management of threats to public health in coordination with public health authorities. The Health and Counseling Center contracts with a third party to provide direct clinical health services to students, including the provision of a Campus Nurse. The third party serves as Medical Director and provides direct supervision of clinical services, approval of order set, and quality assurance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides short-term individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention.
• Assesses clients for psychological disorders and determines appropriate case disposition.
• Provides educational outreach and training for faculty, staff, and students.
• Oversees the provision of medical care services via the Campus Nurse (via contract service medical director) with support from the Office Manager
• Oversees the office manager in the collection and management of student medical and immunization records as required by the College and the State of Wisconsin through the Office Manager.
• Work collaboratively with the Campus Nurse and Office Manager and the Kenosha County Department of Health regarding communicable diseases.
• Provides prevention and outreach services for suicide prevention, wellness topics, sexual violence education and other areas.
• Supervises counselor, office manager and nurse.
• Manages counseling records including role as system administrator for Titanium Schedule electronic records.
• Serves on college and division committees.
• Prepares reports for departments and college.
• Ensure budgetary, financial, departmental and institutional policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations are adhered to.
• Maintains industry knowledge through engagement with professional associations, reading, training, etc.
• Prepares and maintains detailed documentation for client service and operations utilizing Titanium and other applications as appropriate.
• Maintains professional standards of service delivery and operations to ensure consistency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

• Master's degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited program and 5 years post-licensure experience is required.
• A terminal degree in counseling or clinical psychology is preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

• Five (5) years of broad clinical experience in individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach education, consultation, and clinical supervision in a college/university setting is required.
• Knowledge and experience working with short-term delivery systems for providing counseling, psychotherapy and medical services is required.
• Experience with the proactive utilization of off-campus referrals for students who require more extensive psychological support than a brief psychotherapy model can provide is required.
• Experience with the proactive utilization of off-campus referrals for students who require more extensive medical care/support than a brief clinical experience model is required.
• Supervision and operations management with educational outreach is required.
• Leadership experience within a college counseling center and health center is preferred.
• Experience with Titanium Software is preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Demonstrated effective collaboration with campus health services or counseling services.
• Demonstrated experience with staff supervision and evaluation.
• Demonstrated management experience (office policy, communication, budget oversight, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to form strong working/collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff members.
• Ability to relate effectively with diverse members of the College community.
• Licensed as a mental health professional in Wisconsin and have experience with young adults.
