Summary of Position

The University of New Hampshire invites applications for a tenure-track position in Security Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. This position has an anticipated start date of August 2022. This faculty member will teach and supervise graduate students in the online M.S. Cybersecurity Policy and Risk Management (CPRM) program and potentially also teach cybersecurity courses in our undergraduate programs. CPRM is a non-STEM degree that welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds (technical, legal, business/operations, government, etc.) and strives to have graduates who can bring cybersecurity into the enterprise risk management, continuity, and resilience planning of any kind of organization. CPRM is a completely “open education resources” (OER) program, and the University supports faculty OER efforts. Taught via the Canvas learning management system, all CPRM classes are intensive, asynchronous online courses that run in an 8-week cycle of five e-terms in one calendar year.

Teaching expectations are a 3×3 load, including graduate and online obligations and supervision of graduate projects/theses (concluding experiences). Other essential duties include scholarship, curriculum development, and service activities such as committee participation and program assessment.

This is a nine-month, academic year position, with the possibility of summer teaching assignments. Due to the tenure-track nature of this position, this position necessitates residential UNH faculty.

Departmental Information

The University of New Hampshire, founded in 1866, is the state’s flagship public university. The College of UNH Manchester (UNHM) is the university’s urban campus and has committed to innovative professional degree programs designed for current student realities and future workforce demands. The College actively creates and nurtures a dynamic learning environment in which qualified individuals of differing perspectives, life experiences, and cultural backgrounds pursue academic goals with a mutual respect and shared spirit of inquiry. UNHM’s Department of Security Studies fosters an entrepreneurial environment that encourages faculty innovation and leadership. The Department established a residential B.S. in Homeland Security in 2015, an online M.S. in Cybersecurity Policy and Risk Management in 2018, and two new programs in 2021: an online M.S. in Global Conflict & Human Security and an online M.S. in National Security Intelligence Analysis.

The Security Studies discipline is distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach to education, and our UNHM faculty emphasize the full incorporation of non-traditional learners into our programs. As a land-grant, sea-grant, space-grant institution, the University strongly supports its public service mission—with engagement of professionals and businesses with academic initiatives, experiential learning opportunities, and outreach to our societal and economic communities. Reflective of these priorities, the University successfully applied for NSA/DHS designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (2019-24) based on our interdisciplinary courses in cybersecurity education and our establishment of the UNH Center for Cybersecurity Leadership, Education, and Outreach (CCLEO).

The Security Studies Department is actively encouraging the application of a diverse pool of candidates, seeking to further its commitment to inclusion of underrepresented groups.

The University System prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, veteran status, or marital status. Application by members of all underrepresented groups is encouraged. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the U.S.
