Under general supervision is responsible for supporting and advancing the mission and goals of the university and the college/school in all academic, scholarly and student support activities. The Assistant Professor typically teaches assigned courses, develops curriculum and course content, conducts research and publishes research findings, counsels and advises students on course requirements and participates in college/school activities for the advancement of organizational goals and student success. Essential Duties Summary
  • Supports and advances the mission and goals of the university and the college/school in all academic and scholarly activities.
  • May develop curriculum and course content. May also select textbooks for inclusion in curriculum content.
  • Teaches courses in various mediums (traditional, online, or blended) as assigned to college lever students. May cover other classes for instructors who are absent.
  • Conducts research and publishes findings.
  • Establishes and holds office hours for students to receive counseling and advice on class requirements.
  • Participates in college/school activities requiring faculty presence.
  • May serve on college, school, and/or university committees as required.
  • Fiscal planning; program planning and development; ongoing review and analysis of all program activities; ensuring that, in all aspects, the program meets accreditation requirements.
  • Provide classroom instruction for the program using computer mediated classroom technology including use of existing programmatic material within the program curriculum, provide for indirect supervision of clinical faculty, and direct clinical supervision, teaching, and evaluation of students.
  • Function as a full-time faculty member within the program by carrying an appropriate teaching load.
  • Establish an ongoing partnership relation with clinical facilities.
  • Interface with students, department, division, and college in person and using computer technology.
  • Collaborative teaching with a team of peers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

1.0 Hiring Range $53,198.00 - $70,487.00 Education
Ph.D. or equivalent; a terminal degree is required.

Required Licensing/Certification
  • A valid Registered Respiratory Therapy ( RRT ) credential and current state license (expired credentials are not valid).
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist ( RPFT ) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist ( NPS ) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Knowledge of:
  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Must have knowledge in the areas of teaching.
  • Sets the standard for principles, methods and procedures in an area and determines long-term direction under his/her guidance. May involve a level of expertise that is recognized both internally and nationally as top notch in the field.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.

Work Experience
  • Ten years teaching experience in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Ten years’ experience as a Director of Clinical Education in an accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist ( RRT ) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current Texas licensure eligible.
  • Knowledge of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accreditation essentials.
  • Ten years’ experience as a respiratory care practitioner.
  • Ability to work without supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Competency with computer technology including Microsoft office software products.
  • A a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
