Job Summary: The Department of Philosophy at SUNY Brockport invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2022. We are seeking a colleague who is an exceptional teacher and will sustain an active program of scholarly research in the candidate's area(s) of expertise. A pluralistic and supportive department, we value free and open inquiry from diverse points of view and especially welcome applications from members of communities that are traditionally underrepresented in philosophy. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a 3-3 course load, occasionally supervising theses and independent studies, sustaining an active program of scholarly research in the candidate's area(s) of expertise, and providing service to the department, campus, and profession. There may be the opportunity for summer teaching, as well.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Philosophy by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • AOS: Ethics (esp. normative ethics).
  • AOC: Political Philosophy or Applied Ethics (esp. Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, or Information Technology Ethics).
  • Ability to teach both Political Philosophy and courses in applied ethics (esp. Medical Ethics and either Business Ethics or Information Technology Ethics).
  • Ability to work effectively with students, public, college community and external constituencies, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching courses in normative ethics, political philosophy, and applied ethics (especially Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, or Information Technology Ethics).
