Job Duties:
The Banner DBA is the senior person responsible for all aspects of Banner and its databases including but not limited to: installation, upgrades, configuration, backup, recovery, security, performance analysis and capacity planning for multiple instances, support applications, and third-party applications such as an enterprise resource planning system (ERP (Banner)) and various reporting tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Review, coordinate, and install updates and patches for the Banner® ERP and related 3rd party products.
  • Create, maintain and upgrade ERP environment leveraging Tomcat.
  • Provide full life cycle support of the Banner ERP and the associated Oracle environment tools.
  • Database & application installation, configuration and maintenance according to established best practices.
  • Design, Develop and implement processes for backup, recovery and cloning of databases, including Disaster Recovery initiatives.
  • Proactively monitor and optimize system performance using tuning, optimization, and other methods.
  • Scripting and/or automate common repeatable tasks across the spectrum of supported products and technologies.
  • Assist in planning of service requests, implementation steps, corrective actions, upgrade recommendations and optimization steps for Oracle and Ellucian technologies and products.
  • Ensure database integrity and security.
  • Coordinate, develop, schedule, and monitor data dumps in support of all ancillary support services as requested.
  • Coordinate, implement schedule, and monitor data integration from management applications and third-party sources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with Oracle and the ERP (Banner) and other applications associated with the enterprise level production and test environments.
  • Proactively engage in problem solving issues related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Create and maintain technical and functional documentation as required.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the quality, accuracy, and security of data.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Routinely practice self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.





Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 3 or more years of experience with Ellucian Banner® software suite.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with Oracle, RMAN, OEM, Oracle Partitioning, Shell scripting and/or PL/SQL scripting, Oracle on RHEL platform are required.
  • Oracle Certifications (OCP, OCA) is a plus
  • Enterprise experience in database security, performance tuning, and backup and recovery.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and API.



REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

  • Oracle DBA certification preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Thorough understanding of the technical architecture of the Ellucian Banner® software suite, including Banner 8 and the latest release - Banner 9.
  • Experience installing, configuring and upgrading Banner 8, Banner 9 and all related tools and products.
  • Experience supporting an Oracle database environment and related tools (Oracle 12 and 19).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the integration and maintenance of third-party applications that integrate with the Banner® ERP. Examples include Touchnet, Cashnet, Atomic, NelNet, Kronos, Webfocus, Evisions Intellecheck and learning management systems such as Blackboard and Canvas.
  • Experience with tools such as GIT, Ellucian Solution Manager (ESM), Application Navigator, Banner 9 Admin Pages and Self-Service, Jenkins Agent, Banner Enterprise Identity Services (BEIS), Single Sign-on Configuration/Support (SSO), Operational Data Storage (ODS) and Ellucian Ethos Identity and Integration services.
  • Experience in configuring and managing middleware servers and Tomcat.
  • A demonstrated understanding of application single sign-on for the Banner 9 release.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot database issues and offer effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex and time sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with end-users and teammates, to understand their technical and operational needs and translate them into viable technical solutions.
