Working closely with the President, school leadership and other key leaders, the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (VP DEI) will lead and inform the institutional strategic priorities advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging across UT Health San Antonio. The VP, DEI will direct and coordinate the institutional process to assess and codify policies and practices that encourage belonging, equity, and access as a means of enhancing and improving the institutional cultural climate. This enterprising leader will provide vision around the alignment of DEI initiatives and build a sense of shared accountability to this work, empowering others to implement meaningful and impactful change while fostering a culture of trust, transparency, and openness. Partnering with multiple constituents, inclusive of alumni and other external stakeholders, to ensure and act on institutional opportunities to promote diversity and inclusive excellence, cultural competency proficiency and health equity for the communities we serve. This position will work in a highly matrixed environment and will partner with Executive leadership to assess and drive DEI education and awareness, as well as develop actionable strategies that yield measurable outcomes and long-term impact on a culture of inclusion and belonging. The incumbent is responsible for improving engagement and DEI capability across the institution. And will partner closely with the Deans and DEI designees within the schools to support efforts for accreditation requirements. This position plays a key role in the continued development of our DEI strategy across the organization. In this role, developing, implementing, and tracking the progress of ongoing initiatives that aid in building an inclusive culture and workplace, manages risk, and influences activities that drive long-term viability. This role will leverage data, including various types of employee survey data, business performance and customer metrics, along with external research to inform our ongoing DEI strategy and to measure progress against our DEI goals as well as measure the impact on our culture, customers and communities in which we serve. This role will provide consultative expertise to senior leadership within the respective schools and administrative areas regarding best practices; contribute to the development and execution of policies and programs that promote DEI principles and practices; collaborates with institutional leaders, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and affiliation groups to direct and advance DEI efforts within UT Health San Antonio, setting standards to ensure consistency across company practices. Additionally, this role will engage business and operational leaders across the organization in defining and establishing DEI goals for their teams and leveraging resources to drive overall employee engagement to achieve those goals.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, health administration or similar field required.
  • Master’s degree and/or terminal degree in related field strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • At least ten (10) years of demonstrated academic or professional experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion priorities within an organization that have resulted in improved outcomes in organizational practice and climate.
  • Five (5) years of leadership and supervisory experience with success promoting collaboration, creativity, and engagement.
  • Relevant experience highly preferred in the academic health community or from work experiences that demonstrates understanding of issues inherent to diversity and inclusion particularly as it intersects with the academic and research missions of a health sciences enterprise.
