Visiting Lecturer in Photography

The Art Department at Williams College seeks an established photographer or artist who works primarily with the photographic medium, and whose practice and pedagogy engages with issues of Social and Environmental Justice, Diversity and Equity, for a visiting faculty position.

The teaching load for this position is two Digital Photography courses, one at the introductory level and the other at an intermediate level. Course content will include technical skill building and advanced techniques, photography theory, and guidance in artistic research, portfolio building, writing, and exhibitions. The schedule is flexible. It is possible either to teach one course in the fall semester and one in the spring or to teach both classes in a single semester (with a preference for the fall).

With 2000 undergraduates and about 40 graduate students in art history and development economics, Williams is an institution that places a high value on teaching as well as scholarship; consequently, we seek applicants who can demonstrate in their supporting materials a capacity for excellent teaching and for working effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

Qualifications

We expect the visitor to hold an MFA in Photography or an equivalent related degree by the commencement of the job, have teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level, and a substantial exhibition record.

Application Instructions

Applicants for this position should submit the following materials via Interfolio:
  • A letter of application of no more than two pages. In the letter, please include information about your area of practice as well as your teaching experience and philosophy.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • A summary of creative interests (two pages). Please include a portfolio of works as a PDF no longer than 15 pages.
Candidates who advance in the pool will be asked to provide the names of two people who are willing to provide letters of reference, and brief descriptions of two proposed courses in digital photography, one introductory and one intermediate in level.
