Job Summary:

Position Summary:
* The primary role of this position is to manage the successful operation of the elementary teacher education program, which includes:
* coordinating coursework and implementation of new program initiatives with faculty /teaching faculty, and other stakeholders as needed;
* promoting the program, advising current and prospective students, and monitoring current students? progress to degree;
* coordinating applications and admissions (including scholarships);
* managing record keeping (student records, program database, DPI teaching certification benchmarks);
* liaising with university programs and other relevant entities regarding program implementation and student field placements (such as Teacher Education Center, School of Education Student Services)
* coordinating and managing various events and meetings (e.g. orientations and end-of year and end-of-program performances);
* Working with disciplinary area faculty and staff to hire elementary education teaching assistants and field supervisorThe position requires mastery of a broad set of competencies, including: customer service, effective written and oral communication, organizational skills, time management, team building, event planning and computer proficiency.
Principal duties:

The elementary education program at UW-Madison is currently being redesigned to be more streamlined and cost-effective, while remaining powerful and authentic in preparing future teachers. We are seeking a program manager to coordinate and manage the successful articulation of coursework and fieldwork components. Furthermore, we want the person in this position to be a leader in the program, promoting, organizing and overseeing its growth and development while working closely with all other members of our team to create a positive and inclusive program culture.

Specific duties breakdown as follows:

Elementary Education Program Coordinator (45%)

Serve as a liaison to various campus offices (such as Teacher Education Center and Office of Student Admissions, School of Education, McBurney, Campus-wide initiatives), as appropriate and needed, to ensure students needs are met from admission through certification, to communicate about policies and procedures to best assist with students, admission and/or success and necessary department information, and to manage current and accurate student information on enrolled students.

Relay information to faculty and students of any changes to university policies or other UW relevant policy information. Compile, prepare, and maintain accurate information, data and statistics for reports as requested for the department, SoE, TEC, SESS, campus offices and/or outside agencies.

Keep admission and program information up-to-date by revising program information for handbooks, keeping track of program revisions, and updating university records. Also manage elementary education certification processes: Submit forms for approval to appropriate campus offices.

Admissions and Student Needs Coordinator (15%)

Advise current and prospective students on aspects of the program including class registration, program requirements, and degree completion. Aid in obtaining necessary authorizations, substitutions, accommodations.

Communicate with all necessary offices on campus as to the status of student applications and relevant information for program and class placement. Manage student and course files. Maintain information about admissions numbers, candidates and course requirements for different programs as needed.

Office Manager (15%)
Work closely with the faculty director and department administrator to plan all needs for the program, including course scheduling, new and old program requirements.

Collaborate, as relevant and needed, with the Teacher Education Center, the C&I department chair, and the Elementary Education faculty director to coordinate the hiring of field supervisors and teaching assistants, and to communicate about onboarding and cross- communication with course instructors, Faculty Associates, supervisors and key stakeholders.

Lead and provide support to guide the engagement of all stakeholders in various initiatives, in order to drive results, implement changes, and track impacts.

Serve as the data and policy hub for issues related to the program. Policy creation will be done in concert with other stakeholders. However, the position maintains written documentation related to daily operations, required assessments, student progress, meeting standards, and program evaluation.

Communication and Event coordinator (25%)
Coordinate necessary meetings for students, Faculty/Faculty Associates, and staff. Student meetings may include: orientations for the program and each semester, specialty topics as needed through the program, finals presentations and celebrations. Faculty and staff meetings may include: weekly staff meetings, ad hoc faculty committee meetings, and monthly supervisor meetings.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
A Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, or similar field required. Master's degree preferred.

Qualifications:

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
* Candidates will ideally have at least three years' experience teaching
* Experience with data management and computer processing skills
* Candidates must have at least three years? experience in educational management, including organizing, supervision duties and policy creation.
* Candidates must have at least three years? experience in a higher educational setting, including student advising and cross department communications.
* Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal, teamwork, written and oral communication skills.

Preference:
* Commitment to program priorities including social justice, equity, inclusion, diversity, asset-based perspective, and evidence-based teaching practices. Candidates should describe how they bring attention to diversity and inclusion into their work.
* Experience with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction rules and requirements for certification
* Experience in program design or policy is highly preferred
* Experience in event planning, production and management
* Experience with numerous UW data systems highly valued (SIS, WSDM, APPReview, WORD PRESS, SALESFORCE, WiSH)
