Job Summary:

Reporting to the UW-Madison Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance, this position is a key leadership position and is responsible for University-wide Controllership and managing Business Services functions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

This position is responsible for influencing institutional management and divisional business representatives from schools, college, administrative, and auxiliary units to develop and implement financial policies and procedures for UW-Madison. Such policies and procedures must be within the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework of sound risk-based internal controls and compliance with regulatory requirements of organizations such as the State of Wisconsin, the Federal Government and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. The policies and procedures must provide service to constituency groups and meet the need for financial accountability within risk tolerance.

This position must maintain business relationships with UW-Madison's closely related organizations, including the University of Wisconsin Foundation, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the University Hospital and Clinics Authority.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field required.

Preferred
Master's Degree
MBA or other advance degree
desirable.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 6 years of financial management experience preferably in higher education or a large decentralized business enterprise.
- Visionary planning and leadership skills.
- Written and oral communications skills to deliver presentations to general audiences and executive level.
- Experience in providing leadership to a diverse staff and delivering business services within a creative business that is highly regulated and subject to compliance requirements.
- Data analysis and project management skills.
- Team management and negotiation skills.
- Change management skills.
- Experience in the design, acquisition, and implementation of complex financial systems in large organizations.
- Financial expertise and knowledge of GAAP for Colleges and Universities.
- Understanding of state and federal regulations related to finances and accounting in higher education institutions.
