Job Details

The psychology department at Haverford College is looking to hire multiple people (2-4) to teach courses on a part-time basis for the spring semester of 2022. We are fortunate to teach excellent students at Haverford, and this could be a great opportunity for any candidate interested in building a teaching resume. We are especially interested in candidates interested in gaining teaching experiences in a liberal arts environment, as well as those who are committed to engaging a diverse student body and creating an inclusive classroom environment.

Our specific teaching needs this spring are listed below. We are open to considering candidates interested in teaching one or more of these courses, depending on individual schedules and availability.
  • Two sections of Psychology 100: Foundations of Psychology, which is our introductory psychology course. Psychology 100 is a lecture-style survey course limited to 35 students. A Ph.D. in psychology is required to teach Psych 100.
  • An upper-level (200 or 300) course in the candidate's area of expertise. 200-level courses are typically general sub-fields (e.g., social psychology, abnormal psychology, etc.) and are lecture style and limited to 35 students. 300-level courses are more focused and advanced topical seminars limited to 12 students. A Ph.D. in psychology is required to teach a 200 or 300-level course.
  • The lab component of Psychology 200: Research Methods and Statistics, which is a requirement for the psychology major. Psychology 200 has a lecture component taught by a current member of our department; the course also includes two lab sections (approximately 20 students each) in which students do hands-on activities that involve statistical analysis and designing and conducting a research study. The person hired to teach these lab sections would work closely with the professor teaching the course, and there are existing teaching materials available for lab instruction. A Masters is required to teach the lab component of Psychology 200. This could be a good opportunity for an ABD doctoral student seeking teaching experience in a liberal arts setting.
Anyone who is interested in being considered for these courses should submit a CV and a cover letter using Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/96550 . The cover letter should make it clear which courses you are interested in teaching at Haverford, as well as a description of your teaching experiences, approaches and philosophy, and names and contact information for two references. For technical questions regarding submitting your materials, please contact Interfolio directly at 877-997-8807 or help @ interfolio.com . Questions about the position may be addressed to: Jen Lilgendahl, chair of the Department of Psychology, Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, PA 19041, USA at email: jlilgend @ haverford.edu . Materials will be reviewed on a rolling basis, starting on October 18 and continuing until positions are filled.

Special Requirements: All faculty and staff (including contract workers) who are employed or engaged by Haverford College must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and provide proof of vaccination, unless an exemption from this policy has been granted as an accommodation or otherwise.
