Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology -  Lyon College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology position beginning in fall 2022. This one-year position may be renewed for a second year with the additional possibility of conversion to tenure-track. We are seeking an archaeologist or biological anthropologist capable of teaching a range of courses across these two subfields. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in anthropology by August 2022, evidence of effective teaching and student mentorship, commitment to creating an  inclusive classroom supportive of underrepresented categories of students, and a developed  research and writing agenda. Preference will be given to candidates with an ongoing or planned research program capable of integrating students into the faculty member’s research. Candidates that have experience in collaborative anthropological methods, culturally competent resource management, and/or research that promotes justice and equity are especially encouraged to apply.

Additional responsibilities may include academic advising and service on college committees. Experience at a small, residential liberal arts college as a student or as a faculty member is desirable. Absent that experience, an understanding of the difference between a small college and a university and the desire to be on the faculty of a small college are important. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
