Department of Communication and Social Influence

Klein College of Media and Communication

Temple University

Assistant Professor of Instruction (non-tenure-track)

The Department of Communication and Social Influence in the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Instruction faculty position. The start date for the position is July 1, 2022, with an expectation that the successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in Communication or related field by that date.

The successful candidate will contribute to the department primarily through teaching, with the possibility of teaching courses from a social scientific approach to the study of communication, such as social science research methods; social influence inquiry (epistemology); communication, attitudes, and opinion; misperceptions and misinformation; narrative persuasion; conflict and influence; multiparty conflict processes, or intercultural communication. Candidates are not expected to teach in all these areas but should have expertise to teach at least several of these courses.

A non-tenure-track position carries an expectation of excellent teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department and Klein College through service, which will include developing curricula, serving on committees, and/or advising student organizations. Although this position’s main responsibility is teaching, our teaching faculty are supported and celebrated when they produce scholarship, creative, and/or professional work.

Utilizing Temple’s unique setting as an urban institution, Communication and Social Influence majors learn to be effective communicators in settings defined by their diversity, civic engagement, risk, and conflict. Cities across the globe are challenged by the most fundamental issues of our times—social justice, environmental impact, public health, racial-ethnic and socio-political segregation, and terrorism. The Department of Communication and Social Influence shapes tomorrow’s communication professionals to bring about positive social change.
