PRIMARY PURPOSE :
Develop a recruitment and retention program aimed at increasing the overall enrollment and persistence of Latinx students. Provide direct service to all prospective and current Latinx students by assisting them with issues which affect college success, including housing, admission and placement, acculturation, advising, retention, and liaison with campus community.

- This is a 11-month exempt position at pay level 23 in the Administrative salary schedule.
- Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district.

Program Support and Development:
- In collaboration with Admissions and Records and the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, design and implement a recruitment plan for Latinx students, both within and outside the COCC service district. Participate in College recruitment activities, both on and off-campus.
- Assist with the collection of data, evaluation of effectiveness of programs and services and preparation of reports and surveys concerning Latinx populations. Assist with performing ongoing assessments to ensure that program goals and objectives are met.
- Develop relationships with local Latinx community organizations and, as appropriate, partner with them to further the educational goals of students.
- In collaboration with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion,
maintain and manage the Latinx program budget and other
administrative processes in a timely manner.
Student Support:
- Develop and implement a retention plan for Latinx students, including activities and events focused on academic success, personal skill development and goal attainment.
- Advocate for and advise prospective and current Latinx students with regards to COCC admissions, academics, financial aid, personal and other pertinent issues.
- Develop, coordinate and implement activities and events that will facilitate participation and cultural awareness across the COCC campus community and the college’s service district.
- Advise the Latinx Student Club and/or other Latinx cultural groups.
General Duties:
- Serve on College committees.
- Provide information and, under the guidance of the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, training for the College on the needs, concerns, and cultural backgrounds of Latinx students within the District.
- Work with the appropriate College personnel to write proposals for program funds.
- Perform other essential functions as assigned.

1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues on a college campus.
2. Demonstrated experience recruiting, advising, mentoring, and retaining students from Latinx populations. Knowledge and skill in communicating and working effectively within Latinx communities. Demonstrated understanding of the developmental needs of Latinx students attending college.
3. Experience in planning and implementing social and educational programs for students.
4. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, set work priorities, and manage workload.
5. Excellent communication skills and ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
6. Ability to manage budgets and other administrative processes in a timely and professional manner.
7. Ability to interpret College enrollment policies and explain rationale behind policies for prospective and current students, ensuring their understanding of expectations and requirements.
8. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
9. Ability to work independently with the context of a team environment.
Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS :
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. - Bachelor’s degree required in Student Services, Higher Education, Adult Learning, Human Development, Counseling, Communications or related field OR equivalent experience working with the Latinx community.
- Two years of experience working in a culturally diverse environment, and in Latinx communities, specifically.
- Oral and written fluency in Spanish language.
