The VPSA will have the opportunity to make a transformative impact at CSUSM, joining a relatively new President with a background in student affairs and many other new members of the leadership team as they embark on the implementation of a new strategic plan, ensure the social mobility and success of a diverse student body, and continue on their ambitious trajectory of inclusive excellence.

Since its founding in 1989 as the California State University’s 20th campus, Cal State San Marcos has grown to serve over 16,000 students across its 43 undergraduate and 25 graduate programs. A comprehensive public university offering diverse academic programs, the campus prides itself on exemplary teaching, innovative and experiential curricula, and the application of new technologies to solve real problems. A national model for student access and success, 54% of CSUSM graduates are the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree. Designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), the University is also home to the highest per capita number of American Indian students in the California State University system as well as the highest number per capita of military-affiliated students. CSUSM has a residential population of approximately 1,500 students and seeks to actively engage all students in myriad student engagement opportunities.

The VPSA will have the opportunity to serve as an advocate and champion for all students while building on the University’s many successes and institutional assets, including high-quality educational programs, an unwavering commitment to student success, a record of growth and innovation, incredibly talented faculty and staff, and being recognized as one of the most diverse universities in the nation. Located in North San Diego County, CSUSM community enjoys close proximity to Southern California’s beaches and mountains.
