Position Summary

The University at Buffalo, Office of Fellowships & Scholarships within the Graduate School seeks to hire a Fellowships & Scholarships Advisor. The Advisor is responsible for increasing the visibility of fellowship and scholarship opportunities and increasing the diversity of the applicant pool across the university through broad recruitment programs, targeted recruitment activities, office website updates and improvements, print materials and campus news articles. The Advisor will provide advisement to students on award opportunities through group and individual advisement sessions. This position will manage multiple internal and external award programs including student recruitment and advisement, award process stewardship, communications and reporting. The Advisor will support data management of award programs, and will support assessment efforts with preparation of annual and periodic reports. This position will oversee general day-to-day office operations and communications and reports to the Director.

Key duties and responsibilities include:
  • Design and implement recruitment programs and activities. Advise students on award opportunities.
  • Provide leadership to increase the diversity of the applicant pool for all awards.
  • Coordinate the Spark Program, recruit undergraduate students, and manage Micro-Credentials awards.
  • Manage internal awards including; student recruitment, advisement, communications and reporting.
  • Coordinate the application process and support recruitment for various external scholarships. Coordinate faculty committees prepare candidates them for national interviews.
  • Assess award efforts with preparation of annual report data.
  • Update Office of Fellowships and Scholarships website.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and communications.
  • Directly supervise on Graduate Assistant




The Office of Fellowships and Scholarships was established in in 2016 to provide leadership and expertise in the stewardship of internal and national award programs. Through recruitment and development programs the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships strives to increase the number, diversity, and quality of applicants and awardees at UB. The office provides key support for funded students and fosters community for internally funded fellows to enhance their educational experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of at least two (2) years of professional work experience in higher education working with diverse student populations with competencies in the following areas:

· A highly developed degree of tact and diplomacy are mandatory.

· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) are essential.

· Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational, analytical, data management and reporting skills are essential.

· Strong working knowledge of MS office applications required including Word, Excel, and Access database administration and reporting.

· Experience working with diverse constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Fellowship/scholarship program management.

Student advisement experience.

Demonstrated experience with delivering presentations and with public speaking.

Website management experience.

Experience with UB Information Systems ( SIRI, HUB ).
