Position Summary

The University at Buffalo, Office of International Student Services has a position available for an International Student Advisor and Programming Coordinator. As International Student Advisor and Programming Coordinator, you will:

  • Serve as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) and an Alternate Responsible Officer ( ARO ) for the university’s F-1 student program and J-1 Exchange Visitor program
  • Advise international students and academic departments on immigration matters related to F and J statuses, and interpret related U.S. immigration regulations and policies
  • Develop, coordinate and implement programs that support UB’s international students in their social engagement, academic success and global citizenship, including programs that support the transition of new students to the UB campus community
  • Develop and support efforts to provide intercultural communication training across campus constituents
  • Serve as the advisor to a Student Advisory Board

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Two years of directly related experience. Directly related work experience must involve work with international students, and may include work in international student services, student counseling, immigration or academic advising, or related areas.

Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with non-native speakers of English. Excellent organizational ability, detail orientation, and customer orientation. Demonstrated intercultural skills and first-hand experience in a multicultural setting. Strong computer skills. An ability to learn and effectively deploy new skills, as needed.

Ability to work non-standard (evening and weekend hours) as needed to meet the professional obligation.

US citizenship or lawful permanent residency required as mandated by federal ( SEVP ) regulations.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree. Experience working in an International Student Office at a U.S. college or university. Demonstrated knowledge of F-1 and/or J-1 student regulations. Experience living or working overseas. Experience with customer service. Experience using Sunapsis.
