Lecturer - Literacy/Reading, Elementary Education Program

The University of Vermont’s Department of Education in the College of Education and Social Services invites applications for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Lecturer in Literacy or Reading to join our nationally recognized award-winning faculty. The desired start date is Fall 2022, however, the position could start as soon as January 2022 if applicants are available.  We seek an outstanding educator in the area of Literacy or Reading education in Elementary Education.  Qualified candidates will have experience implementing and teaching about evidence-based practices in literacy and will work across undergraduate and graduate programs. We are particularly interested in individuals with strong teaching skills and a record of engaged collaborative service.   

Required Qualifications:

•  Earned Masters in Literacy, Reading, Education, or a relevant discipline;
•  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice;
•  Evidence of effective teaching; and 
•  Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Literacy, Reading, Education, or a relevant discipline;
• Public school teaching experience in elementary education

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include: 

• Teaching and advising in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs (lecturers teach 8 courses per year, most are in-person, this is not a remote position);
• Collaborating with Department of Education faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, scholarship, and service;
• Serving as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations;
• Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.

The Department The Department of Education is widely recognized for its rigorous academic research, high-quality student experience, innovative teaching practices, and collegial, inclusive work environment. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in preK – 12 educator preparation, curriculum and instruction, special education, higher education and student affairs, educational leadership, and policy studies, and interdisciplinary studies. In addition, we offer undergraduate minors in computer science education, cultural and linguistic diversity, special education, and coaching.

The Community UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country.
