Within the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD), Master's program, Speech@Emerson, the online modality for our Masters program, combines online and in-person learning for aspiring speech-language pathologists across the US. Our program prepares students to become Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) capable of working in any setting, with a variety of disorders, across the lifespan.
The Assistant Director, Program & Student Support will provide guidance and support for this program. The Assistant Director will coordinate and oversee various aspects of the program and student experiences, including admission, advising, immersion events, and placement support. They will participate in committee work, maintain records, and manage database systems as required. They will also support program needs and participate in ongoing process and operations improvements.
This position is primarily remote, though you will be required to come to campus on rare occasions for meetings and special events, such as our Immersion Program.
Admissions:
- Interpret and apply academic criteria to determine an
applicant's Speech@Emerson
admissions eligibility to be admitted to the program.
- Understand the admission system(s), processes, protocols and
academic review portal.
- Review and analyze course descriptions and syllabi, and other
documents to evaluate educational requirements.
- Represent the program at school events, conferences, and serve
as a Speech@Emerson
representative on student webinars.
- Maintain currency on American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA) guidelines.
Advising & Support:
- Meet each semester with students on their assigned advising
load to monitor academic progress, completion of portfolio
documents, and to discuss career related topics.
- Consult with the student success team to identify and document
student challenges and progress.
- Collaborate with institution support offices to ensure a
positive and streamlined student experience.
- Partner with CSD personnel to advise and provide orientation
feedback to ensure policies, program requirements and protocols are
current.
Program & Placement Support:
- Partner with the Director of Clinical Education to establish
and assess placement site qualifications.
- Evaluate and collect feedback from students and community
supervisors at clinical placement sites.
- Work with the placement team to evolve and maintain processes
and procedures.
Immersion:
- Partner with CSD leadership to inform, develop and implement
the Immersion program.
- Along with other committee members, coordinate and execute the
logistics for the multi-day Immersion program. .
- Participate in campus Immersions by coordinating sessions,
facilitating forums and meeting with advisees during their time on
campus.
- Partner with the Graduate Program Director to evaluate data to
advance the Immersion experience for students and
faculty.
Qualifications:
The Assistant Director will have a background in speech-language pathology and will be interested in applying their knowledge with graduate students in the online modality. Detailed qualifications include:
- Master's degree with national certification in speech-language
pathology required and Massachusetts state licensure
preferred.
- Three to five years of experience as a clinical instructor in a
community setting or in administrative leadership within an
academic setting.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, and
presentation software to support remote work and
learning.
- Able to work occasional nights, weekends, and all program
Immersions.
- Able to present effectively to small and large groups and to
work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse
community.
- Able to handle sensitive issues and maintain
confidentiality.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with
demonstrated ability and comfort to handle multiple tasks and
projects.
- Able to exercise sound judgment and employ decision making
skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including
editing and proofreading.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
Hiring Range: $62,600.00 - $65,600.00
