Assistant Professor or Executive-in-Residence Marketing Analytics
Join our community and experience Emerson College!

Emerson College invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure line) or Executive-in-Residence (full-time, renewable term appointment) in Marketing Analytics to join its School of Communication and its established, rapidly-expanding Department of Marketing Communication. The appointment will begin on August 18, 2022.

The Department offers two undergraduate majors (Marketing Communication and Business of Creative Enterprises), three undergraduate minors (Marketing Communication, Entrepreneurial Studies, and Business Studies for Communication & the Arts), and three graduate programs (Strategic Marketing Communication, Digital Marketing & Data Analytics, and Business of Creative Enterprises). The individual selected for this position will be expected to contribute across these on-campus and online programs, with the priority of this position being in the Digital Marketing & Data Analytics graduate program.

Emerson College is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in the college's intellectual, social, cultural, and geographical communities. Emerson endorses a framework of inclusive excellence, which recognizes that institutional excellence comes from fully engaging with diversity in all aspects of institutional activities. Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, research and service that they can contribute to our excellence in this area.

We seek a skilled teacher who will fortify our offerings in analytics and the uses of data-driven analysis and decision making in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. This individual would bring subject matter expertise in established and emerging tools and platforms (e.g. digital, social media, database). Their academic and/or professional knowledge may draw from a variety of areas, such as, but not limited to: consumer engagement, advertising media, digital marketing, retailing, and communication channels.

Candidates should be able to address issues of race and representation in all of their courses. The department is engaged in identifying and removing barriers to admission for working-class students and students of color. The successful candidate will bring expertise to this dialogue. Our ideal candidate will also possess a keen and developed awareness of the issues around diversity, inclusion, and equity within the classroom, and within the profession. The candidate should have facility with culturally responsive pedagogies and approaches, and possess a fluid pedagogy that is able to adapt and expand as the cultural conversation around representation, privilege-based difference, and inclusive excellence continues to evolve. We recognize that these terms and concepts might have different valences in different countries and regions, so please feel free to contact the search committee chair with any questions.

We encourage applications from candidates who use the field to expose power relationships and oppressive practices that are normalized in dominant culture and who explore race, gender, sexuality, and class dynamics through their work. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. An ability to work and teach collaboratively, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education beyond the classroom are essential. Members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

General candidate requirements. The candidate must:
  • have prior teaching experience at the college/university level or related teaching/training experience in the field;
  • possess appropriate competencies with mainstream and specialized software tools in the field, as the Department is committed to strengthening its students' analytical and quantitative skills;
  • be strongly committed to an active engagement with diversity, as described above;
  • value collegiality and collaboration.

The candidate for the Assistant Professor (Tenure-line) Position must:
  • possess a Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree in a relevant field;
  • demonstrate a successful research program or the potential for one.

The candidate for the Executive-in-Residence Position must:
  • possess a master's degree or higher in a relevant field;
  • demonstrate meaningful professional experience in a relevant field;
  • show impact in their profession such as but not limited to speaking at conferences or writing white papers.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume or CV, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research scholarship (if appropriate), summary of teaching evaluations (if any), contact information for three references (not to be contacted without applicant's written approval). Additionally, applicants should include a separate statement responding to each of the following prompts: 1) Please describe how you envision yourself contributing to Emerson's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Include examples of how you have contributed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in your current position. 2) Please describe how you envision contributing to the department's collegiality. (800 words maximum each).

All materials should be submitted individually as a separate PDF. Please note, in the job application where there is the "CV/Cover Letter/ Additional Documents" drop box, you must include all of the required materials listed above. You can upload each document as a separate PDF or as a combined PDF with all materials. Your application will not be complete without these documents.

If you are having issues uploading, please email facultycareers@emerson.edu.

Questions about the position should be directed to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Nejem Raheem, at nejem_raheem@emerson.edu. We will begin reviewing applications on November 15th, 2021. Priority will be given to applications received by December 1st, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.
