Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts and is strongly committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity. These values are central to our mission. We strive for a climate of respect and inclusiveness that welcomes and supports members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, is committed unreservedly to open and free inquiry, and deliberately seeks out multiple perspectives.

Xavier University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biology to begin in fall 2022. The individual must hold a Ph.D. in an area of the biological sciences and have expertise in biomedical sciences (microbiology, protistology, physiology or nutrition preferred). Responsibilities include teaching introductory-level biology as well as upper division courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise; productive engagement in scholarly activities; mentoring undergraduates in research; and advising of students. The successful candidate should bring a passion for teaching undergraduates. Experience supervising undergraduates in research is a plus, as is the interest in collaboration with other faculty.

Xavier’s location in Cincinnati, a vibrant city with multiple major research hospitals, allows faculty to work with community partners to develop research and engaged learning opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University 20 years in a row among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities. A generous endowment supports faculty research in the sciences at Xavier.

The Biology Department is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment. We welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from women, ethnic and racial minorities, and other individuals who are under-represented in the profession. Xavier University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Applicants should submit the following to Xavier University’s website: an application letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy that incorporates how you can support diversity and inclusion, and a statement of research interests that includes ideas for research with undergraduates. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2021 . Finalists will be asked for letters of recommendation. Questions may be sent to the Chair of the Biology Department, Dr. Jennifer Robbins at robbins@xavier.edu .

Xavier University will require all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 3, 2022. Newly hired employees will be required to provide vaccination status upon on-boarding. Vaccine exemptions may be granted for medical or religious reasons.
