Position Information

Vacancy Number: S-00796 Position Title: Coordinator, Pre-Professional Programs Classification Title: Coordinator Department: Central Advising Employment Type: Full-Time Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management (40%).
o Develop, manage, and implement pre-professional program events, visits, workshops, mentoring opportunities, and test prep courses related to healthcare professions
o Coordinate programs focused on recruitment, advising, and student completion for pre-professional programs
o Serve as the primary contact for pre-professional programs at AUM
o Write letters of recommendations for pre-professional students and coordinate/participate in mock-interviews and other activities related to professional school admission
o Collect and analyze data relating to pre-professional programs and prepare/submit reports as needed

Advising / Coaching (25%). (Undergraduate, Graduate, Alumni).
o Work with academic advisors to ensure pre-professional students have an effective plan of study that facilitates entry into professional schools post-graduation
o Work with student success coaches to enhance pre-professional student success across all degree programs
o Conduct appointments with students enrolled in pre-professional programs to discuss career options and to ensure understanding of plan of study
o Serve as advisor of campus pre-professional clubs/organizations, as needed

Outreach & Relationship Development (25%).
o Establish and nurture professional school relations to create and enhance pathways for professional school admission
o Build external relationships with school counselors, admission representatives, alumni and university colleagues
o Serve on student recruitment panels and support all initiatives related to student recruitment and retention
o Develop and maintain student mentoring program, including on-campus (peer-mentoring) and off-campus (River Region community) initiatives
o Coordinate and organize volunteer/service and job shadowing opportunities for students
o Organize annual Path to Health Professions event
o Serve on university committees, as needed

Teaching (10%).
o Teach and/or team teach UNIV 1000 specialized (focused on Introduction to Health Professions) for incoming students (including honors) and BIOL 1950 (Preparing for Careers in Health Care)
o Teach test prep courses related to healthcare professions, as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of applicable University practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of scope, guidelines, and operation of departmental or unit program
  • Knowledge of basic word processing software and the ability to operate standard PC/PC software applications, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Knowledge of record-keeping procedures
  • Knowledge of assigned department forms, rules, etc.
  • Knowledge of the needs of Pre-Professional students
  • Knowledge of professional schools and application processes related to them
  • Knowledge of student success strategies
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to supervise
  • Ability to create training materials related to student success
  • Ability to effectively teach a variety of topics related to pre-professional programs and university success
  • Ability to create and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders on and off campus to enhance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree and 3-years of related experience working in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in academic or career advising. Experience working with careers in the STEM field. General knowledge of the health professions admission guidelines and processes. Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Experience in supervisory or leadership role.
