The Director of Community Standards has primary responsibility for the overall management and administration of the Stonehill Community Standards, which communicates the mission and values of a Catholic institution in the Holy Cross tradition. The Director of Community Standards will undertake a broad range of responsibilities, including adjudicating alleged violations of College policy while ensuring compliance with legislative, professional, and college regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive leadership, management, and vision for the Office of Community Standards.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs leadership team and work collaboratively with colleagues within the division.
  • Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure student conduct process is following legislative, professional, and college regulations including Title IX, FERPA, Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act, Campus Sexual Assault Victims’ Bill of Rights, and the Clery Act; serve as the College’s primary hearing officer for major student conduct cases and chair of the Student Conduct Board.
  • Direct discipline case management to appropriate college officials to ensure that all incidents are addressed in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain a student conduct process that is aligned with national standards, best practices, and current law.
  • Supervise Coordinator of Community Standards and provide oversight and direction to Residence Life staff regarding conduct matters.
  • Oversee the management of student conduct files and data within the conduct database, Maxient.
  • Serve as a Title IX Deputy.
  • Prepare reports, including statistical reports required by the federal Clery Act, as requested by College personnel and external agencies.
  • Recruit, select, and provide ongoing training to members of the Student Conduct Board and appeals board.
  • Conduct trainings and develop educational programs for students, staff, and faculty on topics related to Community Standards, such as gender-based misconduct and alcohol and other drug use.
  • Serve as process advisor to students, faculty, staff, and parents/guardians. 
  • Review, revise, and distribute information regarding Community Standards and the Student Conduct Process to all members of the campus community. 
  • Research and draft recommendations for policies and procedures related to student conduct matters. 
  • Work closely with Academic Affairs regarding academic integrity referrals. 
  • Provide educational programming and outreach to prospective and current students and their families on topics related to Community Standards and the Student Conduct Process during events such as orientation, family weekend, and open houses.
  • Serve as member of the Student Affairs Staff On-Call rotation.
  • Provide support during various student crises. 
  • Serve as a member of the Needs Assessment Team, the AOD Committee, and other college committees, as assigned. 
  • Assist with policy development, interpretation, and strategic planning. 
  • Coordinate parental/guardian notification to students found responsible for alcohol and/or drug violations. 
  • Develop and manage departmental budget. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours required.

Education & Experience

A Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field is required. Five or more years of professional higher education experience preferred, including a minimum of two years experience in the administration of student conduct cases.
