Job Description Summary

Auburn University’s College of Education invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs provides leadership for the College of Education in the areas of curriculum; academic policy and academic effectiveness; student recruitment, advising, retention, and engagement; field experiences, assessment, and evaluations; K-12 school partnerships; state-level educator preparation program approval; and national accreditation for professional preparation programs. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs works closely with the four academic units (Department of Curriculum & Teaching; Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership & Technology; Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation & Counseling; and the School of Kinesiology) within the College of Education. The Associate Dean also oversees an Assistant Dean who serves as the designated Certification Officer for educator preparation programs with the State of Alabama. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs serves as a member of the College’s Leadership Council and confers regularly with other academic officers of Auburn University, the state department of education, other institutions of higher education, agencies, and professional organizations. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs oversees the Office of Student Services, the Office of Student Support, and the Office of the Assistant Dean for Assessment. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education and will be located in Auburn, Alabama.

Minimum Qualifications

· An earned doctorate in an academic discipline offered by the college (or closely related field).
· Academic and professional accomplishments that merit appointment with tenure at the rank of professor in one of the college’s academic units.
· Experience in enrollment management, especially as it relates to promoting enrollment growth.
· Experience in developing and maintaining school or community partnerships.
· Capability to build consensus, lead within an inclusive academic organization and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
· Knowledge of and experience with state and national accreditation requirements relevant to educator preparation and other disciplinary programs in the college (e.g., Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, specialized professional associations, and Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education).
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
· Supervisory experience appropriate to leading an office of academic affairs in a college of education.
· Capability to facilitate college and academic program work in support of students’ academic and professional development.
· Ability to work collaboratively and guide shared decision-making processes.
· The candidates for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

· Experience with college-level curricular planning processes.
· An understanding of a variety of effective models for educator preparation programs.
· Experience supervising, collaborating with, and evaluating direct reports.
· Experience in college-level administration, especially related to budget oversight and faculty/staff professional development.
· Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or administrators in other university units.
· Experience collaborating and developing partnerships with a state department of education, school systems, community agencies and organizations relevant to programs within the College of Education.
