Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:
The Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the research team of Drs. Van den Oord and Aberg. The position focuses on lab-technical aspects of epigenomic and transcriptomic studies of psychiatric disorders using bulk and single-cell approaches. A key project involves a new collaborative effort with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York and the Karolinska Institute, Sweden to better understand autism spectrum disorder.

The postdoctoral fellowship also offers opportunities to work on schizophrenia and opioid use disorder and participate in downstream statistical/bioinformatics analyses. Highly motivated candidates with experience in next-generation sequencing and interest in bulk/single-cell epigenomic/transcriptomic approaches are encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
• PhD in genetics, biology, molecular biology or related discipline
• Productive record of research and publication
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Capable of working effectively with collaborators and independently
• Highly motivated candidate with critical reasoning skills
• Strong lab-technical skills in molecular biology
• Experience in next-generation sequencing
• Interest in bulk and single-cell epigenomic/transcriptomic
• Eager to learn, set up, and develop new lab technical technologies/protocols
