Summary and Job Duties

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, has received grant funds to create a state-wide infectious disease prevention center with the Virginia Department of Health. This position is critical to the functioning of the newly established Virginia Infection Prevention and Control Training Center (IPC). The Program Director supports Leadership, and is responsible for the day to day operations of the IPC. Job duties include and are not limited to the following...
  • Works with VCU Infection Prevention Center to develop and revise educational content, and performs e-consultations on request to facilities across the state.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Virginia Infection Prevention Training Center (VIPTC) leadership and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to help support the direction, management, mission and vision of VIPTC.
    Remains abreast of current evidence in specialty field.
  • Establishes relationships with staff and the community in a collaborative approach when providing education and developing evidence-based curriculum and training.
  • Helps promote professional development of attendees to promote excellence in clinical practice, patient safety, and culturally competent care in relation to infection prevention.
  • Provides assistance to team members promoting new knowledge -evidence based practice, research & innovation to align with the Virginia Infection Prevention Training centers goals and mission.
  • Facilitates the development and review of evidence-based content.
  • References and educates based on evidence-based practice through clinical guidelines, policies & procedures, and standards of care.
  • Utilizes current research to develop, implement and evaluate best practices for provided curriculum/content.
    Critically analyzes research findings for their potential application to clinical practice and relevance to current curriculum.
  • Performs Other Duties & Participates in Special Projects in order to support the mission of VIPTC. Also accepts alternate assignments as required
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, or related field, or an equivalent combination of college and related experience, and/or several years' experience in research or grant funded program.

The Program Director should possess demonstrated analytical skills; ability to analyze financial transactions for trends and variances; ability to create ad hoc reports, tracking tools, and professional documents; and the ability to interpret and apply complex government regulations and contractual terms. Strong problem solving and time management skills are essential, including ability to adapt to frequent changes in work assignments, prioritize, and manage Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a diverse work environment.

Certification
Must either have a Certified Research Administration Certificate or complete course work within one year to obtain certification.

Preferred Experience
Prior clinical experience in infection prevention, with responsibility for leading clinical education and program objectives.
