GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

  • The Residence Director, a Staff Assistant position in the APA Unit, provides leadership, direction and coordination to community in assigned residence hall(s) at Framingham State University in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • The Residence Director also coordinates and implements residential education initiatives; system wide programmatic functions; manages/supervises residence hall operational processes, systems and functions; supervises residence hall staff, including academic year, summer conference and vacation period staff; provides campus coverage in an on-call capacity; responds to concerns and emergencies, serves as a student conduct hearing officer, and serves on department, Student Development, and other University committees and work groups as assigned.
  • This is a full-time live-on position and, as such, the Residence Director is expected to have significant presence in the residence halls, including on evenings and weekends. The Residence Director is a designated essential personnel staff position.
  • Specifically assigned residence hall(s) and on-campus accommodations are subject to change.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The Area Director/Assistant Director for Residential Education and the Associate Director of Residence Life provide direct supervision to the Residence Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Residence Director provides supervision to student staff including Administrative Resident Assistants (ARAs), Resident Assistants (RAs), student Mail Handler staff, Security Desk Attendants (SDAs), and vacation, summer or other Residence Life student staff members as assigned.



Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required at the time of appointment
  • One academic year of experience working as a professional (e.g. residence director) or paraprofessional (e.g. resident assistant) in housing/residence life in a college/university setting
  • Experience and knowledge working with college programming and resident education initiatives
  • Strong conflict resolution and management skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer software applications and/or data management systems including MS Office and automated survey tools such as qualtrics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in CSP, Higher Education Administration or related field.
  • One or more years of professional experience in residence or student affairs, supervising staff, and/or student conduct administration
  • Understanding of student development, identity development, and higher education research and theories
  • Knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to foster equity and respond to issues of oppression, discrimination and social justice.
  • Crisis management skills and experience including ability to remain calm, follow established protocols and use sound judgment in emergency situations.
  • Experience working with StarRez software solutions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese


Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit at the rank of Staff Assistant. The position includes a partially furnished on-campus apartment with utilities. The salary range is $37,000 to $40,000.
