Job Description:

This is a Maintenance Generalist III position for Facilities Planning and Operations with the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), providing support to IFAS buildings and sites both on and off main campus. Employee will perform the following duties:

Acts as team leader; directs, leads, and/or coordinates the work of HVAC maintenance crew members when the supervisor is absent.

Performs investigative troubleshooting activities on HVAC systems, building automation controls; identifies problems and specific deficiencies. Performs and coordinates the corrective action required, through either in-house maintenance personnel or outside contractor support.

Performs repairs on building automation controls systems, electrical and mechanical systems as necessary.

Provides support to IFAS FPO Senior Engineer as it relates to the implementation of energy efficiency projects. Verifies all work is being installed in such a manner that maintenance can be performed in the future. Performs cabling, termination, and testing of network systems. Support requires in-depth understanding of controls, commissioning, boilers, pumps, chillers, heating hot water lines and distribution systems, and VFDs.

Provides support to IFAS FPO Senior Engineer in performance of building and system commissioning. This commissioning process requires hands on verification of components, automation controls and programming of these systems. Technical support in this role requires an in-depth understanding of computer networking and cabling to include CAT5 cabling, telecommunications, fiber optics, and low voltage systems.

Responds to after-hours building system alarms, messages and emergencies identified by IFAS FPO building automation system. Responsible for evaluating sense of urgency and making appropriate determination. Keeps others informed as necessary based upon specific needs.

Assists Engineer responsible for off-campus maintenance programs by performing site visits and equipment investigations. Renders technical support to department/centers faculty and staff in the support of maintenance issues that are beyond the center’s abilities. Performs on site investigations, data collections and required troubleshooting to diagnose failures; coordinates with appropriate technical experts, then develops and implements corrective action plans in coordination with project manager.

Tasks will frequently require driving a state vehicle to job sites.

Expected Salary:

$50,000 to $55,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least five years of experience and knowledge of building controls and automation systems, mechanical maintenance and electrical repairs. Additional experience with commercial systems to include chilled and heating hot water distribution systems, boilers, VAVs, VFDs, and chiller operations. Skills in using necessary equipment. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

Familiarity with controls such as Siemens, JCI, ALC, Trane, and Reliable systems. Must possess an understanding of computer networking and cabling to include CAT5 cabling, telecommunications, fiber optics, and low voltage systems.

Proficiency in Microsoft computer programs is essential.
