Description

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for two non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor positions in the NYU Teacher Residency in English Education. These are 12-month positions with the potential for extension, including for multi-year contracts. One position in English Education will ideally begin in January 2022.  The other position will begin in June 2022.  The appointed faculty members will be part of the Department of Teaching and Learning. We are wholly committed to furthering our commitment to diversity by substantially increasing the proportion of our faculty from historically underrepresented groups.  As a department, we are on an anti-racist journey and are striving to develop the most intellectually diverse, inclusive, anti-racist, and equitable institution that we can.  We especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are hiring for two Clinical Assistant Professor positions, one of which will be located in New York City and one in either Albany NY, or New York City.  Our preference is for candidates with backgrounds and expertise in English education and urban education. Along with faculty responsibilities, the successful applicants will serve as Residency Director in the NYU Teacher Residency in New York City and/or Albany NY.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach online modules in the Teacher Residency. Collaborate with Department faculty on assessment and evaluation of study programs.  Serve as Residency Director providing liaison support between NYU Resident Interns and our district partners in New York City or Albany NY district and charter schools. Collaborate with Department faculty to develop and implement communication processes with partner school leadership and onsite program liaisons.  Provide ongoing teaching efficacy and professional feedback to NYU Resident Teacher cohorts.  Provide professional development for Teaching Mentors within school settings.  Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement in-person and online professional learning communities for Resident Teachers, Teaching Mentors, and Teacher Residency graduates during the Induction year.  Assist in the facilitation of program orientations and other recruitment events.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in teacher education or a related field is required, as well as proven excellence as a teacher and strong scholarship in the applied professional fields aligned with the Teacher Residency program focus, particularly English education and urban education.  Minimum of 5 years experience teaching and/or working in complex urban settings required.  Demonstrated experience coaching and building leadership capacity in new and experienced teachers. We seek candidates who have knowledge and understanding of teacher residencies and demonstrated experience in and passion for work in urban schools. Comfort with technology-enhanced education is required.

Application Instructions

APPLICATIONS: Please apply online with a letter of application, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, diversity statement (describing how you address diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and belonging in the scope of your teaching and broader work), and names and contact information for three referees to upload confidential letters.

Application review will begin on October 15, 2021, and will continue until the position is filled. Additional information about the position may be obtained from Dr. Shane Smith, shaneanthonysmith@nyu.edu.
