Job Title: Coordinator, Veterans Affairs

Division: Academic Affairs

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Starting Salary: $17.20+ per hour

Reports To: Assistant Provost, Academic Affairs; Manager, Veterans Affairs

Job Summary

The veterans affairs coordinator certifies student enrollments, communicates with students about their benefits/eligibility, assists with maintaining records and reports, and aims to improve student engagement.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Serves as a School Certifying Official (SCO)
  • Counsels student veterans on education benefits, other potential benefits, University programs offered by the Veterans Administration, and eligibility requirements
  • Assists student veterans in applying for education benefits
  • Maintains files on all student veterans at the institution who receive benefits
  • Performs various office tasks, such as ordering and stocking forms and supplies
  • Serves as an institutional program subject matter expert for the Veterans Affairs Center; upholds all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies; and performs administrative responsibilities
  • Assists with annual academic report preparation for appropriate federal and state entities
  • Participates in planning/preparation for annual federal compliance audit and executes any needed corrective action plans
  • Plans and executes events to engage and communicate with student veterans
  • Escalates issues as appropriate


Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Provides excellent and professional customer service during interactions with students, faculty, staff, and alumni


Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Serves as a liaison between the Veterans Affairs Center and academic advisors, student academic support services (SASS), business office school certifying officials, financial aid, accessibility and disability services, and administrative personnel
  • Facilitates events involving veterans and military personnel
  • Assists in resolving problems in relation to student veteran issues
  • Collaborates with other campus entities regarding veterans events

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with veterans affairs preferred
  • Completion of vaccination status survey and proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of hire.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Familiarity with veterans affairs policies, procedures, and programs
  • Familiarity with FERPA regulations and privacy laws governing higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including tact and diplomacy
  • Organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all records
