Lecturer - Teacher Education (ASL/Deaf Education program)

The Department of Teacher Education in the Dewar College of Education & Human Services seeks applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position beginning August 1, 2022.  The lecturer position is renewable with a pathway for possible promotion to senior lecturer.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses face-to-face and online in the candidate’s area of expertise and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Teacher Education is comprised of 30 faculty with 26 initial teacher, advanced teacher, and service degree programs. The department supports students at all levels of their career pathways and is a partner with schools and programs throughout the South Georgia region.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate-level in the Deaf Education Program and the American Sign Language/English Interpreting program; supervising field experiences and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state, and supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of diverse cultures and backgrounds; participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master’s in Linguistics, Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, Education, or a closely related field by appointment date;
• Native/near-native proficiency in ASL;
• Nationally certified interpreter (RID, NAD/NIC);
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• University/College level teaching in ASL to English interpreting, ASL, and deaf education courses;
• Face-to-Face and Online teaching experience;
• A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
• A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
