An Educational Technologist is the tier 2 position for dealing with campus-wide Educational Technology. Prompt, accurate, and excellent customer service is expected when providing assistance and resolution for Educational Technology related questions and requests.
The IT unit exists to provide comprehensive information
technology delivery and support in the form of personnel, desktop
and mobile computing, multimedia equipment, hardware, network
infrastructure, software, telephone, and network cabling services
to the University community. This unit is the centralized computing
services department for the University.
Academic Technology (AT)
Academic Technology exists to provide the campus with Educational
Technology, multimedia services, and technical expertise in support
of students, faculty, staff, and technology users. Academic
Technology is the experience layer of the technology-enriched
environment for the learning community. The team consists of the
Solutions Center, Educational Technology, Multimedia Services, and
IT Technicians. Solutions Center is the first point of contact for
IT leading end users to the appropriate resources and resolutions.
Educational Technology provides assistance and resources for many
technical questions and requests from faculty, staff, and students
as it pertains to academic learning and technology use in the
modern classroom, online classroom, and throughout the internet.
Multimedia Services oversee the installation, maintenance, and
management of classrooms, signage, and video conferencing. IT
Technicians maintain the campus hardware in offices, and computer
labs. Overall, AT assists in solving problems and developing
projects using a variety of software, hardware, and innovative
technologies.
This position in coordination with the Director, Academic
Technology and Client Services serves as the primary technical
administrator of the Blackboard learning management system (LMS)
including but not limited to, adding/removing users,
adding/removing courses, troubleshooting technical issues, and
providing regular maintenance. The Educational Technologist
provides training and support for this system and other
AT-supported learning software and hardware to the campus community
by identifying symptoms, troubleshooting, and resolving problems
utilizing established techniques, procedures, practices, and
methodologies.
This position also works with other divisions like Center for
Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Learning, Innovating,
Networking Center (LINC) on professional development of
instructional projects and technology-based materials to be used in
classroom/virtual instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university in technology, educational technology, or related field
- Strong communication skills with excellent demonstrated customer service
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Self-starter/self-motivated
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university in technology, educational technology, or related field
- Additional Desired (Preferred) Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in instructional design, educational technology, visual communications, interactive media, mass communications, information technology, or computer information systems
- Experience working with faculty/staff/students in higher education
- Practical experience or demonstrated knowledge of administration of a learning management system and/or visual/graphic design experience
