 The School of Education at Florida Southern College invites qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure –track, nine-month, assistant professor position. The position, to begin August 2022 with probable summer 2022 employment, seeks qualified individuals to join our graduate faculty as we prepare individuals from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines to advance in their careers in higher education and P-12 schools. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a productive line of research, teach courses primarily in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) programs, recruit doctoral students, and supervise dissertations. An EdD or PhD in Education is required.

 

Program Description:

The School of Education offers doctoral, masters, and undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will join faculty dedicated to teaching across degree level programs, engaged in individual and collaborative research, and who are committed to preparing graduates to make a positive and consequential impact on society. Candidates for the Assistant Professor position who possess diverse academic perspectives and experiences relevant to higher education will be the best match for the interdisciplinarity of our programs.

 

 Summary of Position:

The Assistant Professor in Education will teach in person (F2F) and/or on-line classes in the Ed.D. in programs and occasionally in the masters (MEd and MAT) and bachelors programs. The Assistant Professor will be responsible for assisting in the ongoing refinement of courses, teaching courses in person and on-line, advising doctoral students, collaborating with other faculty at FSC, and serving on dissertation committees. The responsibilities include ensuring the delivery of a quality Ed.D. program to doctoral candidates.

 

 Responsibilities:

Conduct scholarly research and publish in respected refereed scholarly journals and/or academic presses.
Advise and direct dissertations of doctoral students.
Teach courses in a cohort-based format to students who typically are working practitioners and attend classes in weekend and asynchronous cohort formats throughout the year.
Collaborate on program and curriculum development and program administration, assisting the program coordinator and with program-related activities.
Be involved in committees and service to the program, school, college, and profession.
Actively engage in recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts.
Provide service to the program, department, college, and profession
Collaborate in the planning for sustaining and growing the education programs within the School of Education
Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Education

 

 

About our ideal candidate

 

Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in Education (EdD or PhD) from a regionally accredited institution with an emphasis in curriculum and learning in higher education or closely related field, earned by August 2022
Demonstrated excellence and experience in quantitative or qualitative research methods
Experience and/or professional training/education in higher education practices, policies, organizational structures, trends, issues
Professional record at a level commensurate with tenure and rank, which includes an active record of scholarship in field of expertise (published/in press/submitted papers and professional presentations)
Ability to meet the College’s requirements for tenure and promotion
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, advising, and service at the graduate level (minimum three years)
Demonstrated proficiency in the English language
Applicants at the Assistant Professor level must have a promising research agenda and a strong commitment to teaching.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience serving on/chairing doctoral dissertation committees
Demonstrated commitment to collaboration within and across institutional contexts
Proficient in both quantitative and qualitative research design
Demonstrated ability to think creatively, design initiatives, and lead innovations that respond to graduate student interests, program goals, and community priorities and needs
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize learning technologies to provide engaging learning experiences in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning contexts
An earned master’s degree in a discipline outside of education
Knowledge and experience working with students pursuing a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree
Experience teaching online and designing hybrid learning experiences
