The University of Washington’s Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time clinician scientist specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and pediatric surgical retina. This position will be based at Seattle Children’s Hospital. This position is a 12-month service period appointment (July 1 – June 30). Anticipated start date is winter 2022.

This appointment may be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to source of funding, and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue teaching and scholarly research.

Responsibilities include .8 FTE of clinical care, including roughly .4 FTE evaluation and surgical management of pediatric retina surgical conditions including but not limited to retinopathy of prematurity with associated retinal detachment, retinal detachment due to other conditions, endophthalmitis, vitreous hemorrhage and roughly .4 FTE of clinical and surgical management of general pediatric ophthalmology including but not limited to strabismus, amblyopia, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, eyelid disease, and optic nerve disease. There may be an opportunity to surgically support a gene therapy program. .2 FTE will be available for administration and research.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent) and  postgraduate training with one or more years of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship and two or more years of surgical vitreoretinal fellowship.

Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
