Haverford College, through its departments of History and East Asian Languages and Cultures, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in the History of Modern China, with a particular interest in global and transnational approaches, to begin in Fall 2022.
The candidate may specialize in any aspect of Chinese history from the 18th through 21st centuries, must have completed their PhD requirements by September 1, 2022, and should display evidence of a robust research agenda. The college will consider candidates from History, East Asian Studies, and other relevant programs; interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an introductory course in the history of Modern China, as well as more advanced, seminar-style courses in their areas of expertise; to direct archivally based senior thesis projects; and to engage in inclusive pedagogy and the mentoring of a diverse student body. Haverford College embraces the scholar-teacher model, and supports faculty research through various programs and funding opportunities.
