The Department of Justice, Law & Criminology in the School of Public Affairs at American University invites applications for a tenure‐line position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Legal Studies beginning August 1, 2022. Applicants should have a PhD or an anticipated PhD completion by August 2022. Candidates who possess a law degree only (JD, LLM or SJD) will not be considered for this position.

The position is focused on candidates who conduct research and teaching in the field of Legal Studies and/or whose interests lie in the intersections of law and society. The Department is particularly interested in individuals whose research focuses on one or more of the following areas: law and economic development, socio‐economic and racial disparities, democratization and constitutionalism, and violence, institutions and policing. Competitive candidates must possess strong backgrounds in social science methodologies, a productive research portfolio, including publications in high‐quality peer reviewed outlets, and a documented track record of successful teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
