A global destination for artists and arts
enthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativity
through five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renowned
summer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier
fine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer of
more than 600 annual performances by internationally celebrated
guest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; Interlochen
Public Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations
(classical music and news); and Interlochen College of Creative
Arts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.
Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks a dynamic,
visionary leader to transform and elevate the function and scope of
library services in both the Interlochen Arts Academy and
Interlochen Arts Camp. This pivotal role will be tasked with
re-envisioning the library as a “learning commons” complete with
state-of-the art services, support, and resources for students
studying the arts in a vigorous academic boarding environment.
Successful candidates will articulate a vision for technology
integration, student support, and maker/engineering spaces, while
at the same time enhancing the traditional offerings of the
library, music library, and archives.
The Director of Libraries will set the vision for the
Bonisteel Library, using their knowledge of current trends and
practices to foster an environment supporting learning, creativity,
innovation, and knowledge/content creation. The Director will
develop meaningful relationships with faculty, staff, and students;
provide a collection and set of services that reflect and
anticipate patron’s needs; and foster an atmosphere of welcome and
support within the library.
Essential Duties:
Set the vision for the Bonisteel Library
Identify and establish new and needed library
services and programs, while also coordinating collection
development efforts
Build and sustain relationships across disciplines
and departments on campus
Coordinate with the Dean of Academics to create and
maintain an effective plan for addressing Information Literacy
skills across the curriculum, which could include teaching classes
as well as aiding faculty
Work with library staff on special projects dealing
with outreach, programming, and initiatives
Model effective communication and collaboration
among team members, creating a trusting, joyful, and productive
environment
Maintain a working environment of accountability
and openness to feedback
Manage the annual budget
Participate in school-wide committee work as
assigned
Supervise and evaluate library staff
Qualifications:
Must possess an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS). Along with this, an undergraduate degree in an arts and/or education related field is desirable. Understand and have experience in implementing best practices for library collections and services as well as progressive managerial experience in a library. Knowledge or experience with music library and archival operations is preferred. Ability to envision the needs of 21st century learners and adapt library facilities and protocols Sound, collaborative management skills and the ability to be decisive Experience with the operation of music libraries, archival operations, and collections in various arts disciplines Knowledgeable in both the current and future trends and practices in libraries Understanding of current copyright standards in various media and performance areas Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to students, faculty, administration, staff, and parents Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders Demonstrates respect for cultural, ethnic, spiritual, and linguistic diversity and values
