Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Computer Science welcomes applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning August, 2022.

Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs and may include courses offered in the day, evening and/or weekend. The 7-member department is housed with modern teaching labs and dedicated faculty research labs. The Department of Computer Science, in the College of Science and Technology, has approximately 250 majors. The department offers an ABET -accredited B.S. degree program in Computer Science, a multidisciplinary Data Science B.S., as well as minors in Computer Science and Data Science. Classes should be conducted through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update, learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs, and participating in department, college and university meetings and workshops. There is also an expectation for faculty to mentor undergraduate students in scholarly research or other high-impact practices, as appropriate.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement ( http://www.passhe.edu/inside/HR/LR/Pages/default.aspx ) and the Millersville University Promotion Statement ( http://www.millersville.edu/about/administration/policies/ ).

Minimum qualifications required to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate include having an earned doctorate and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience (or its equivalent) and scholarship commensurate with this rank.

Required Qualifications
  • ABD, with Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Software Engineering or a closely related field completed by the date of eligibility to apply for reappointment to second year (1/30/23).
  • Significant graduate-level coursework in computer science.
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses in an undergraduate Computer Science program.
  • Potential for ongoing scholarly activity in a Computer Science related area that involves undergraduate students.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Software Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Expertise in Software Engineering or Computer Security or Systems.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Computer Science or Software Engineering, as evidenced by:
    • peer/supervisor review of teaching.
    • student evaluations.
    • teaching awards.


  • Demonstrated scholarly experience in a Computer Science related area that involved undergraduate students.
