Job Summary: SUNY Brockport, State University of New York is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of the Academic Success Center (ASC). Reporting to the Director of the Academic Success Center, the Assistant Director is responsible for leading the development, implementation and organization of transition and success programs including first-year and transfer student orientation. The Assistant Director is an integral part of the departmental leadership team focused on providing student centered support and inspiring the College to achieve academic success and engagement. As part of the ASC leadership team, the Assistant Director is also a key organizer of diverse student retention, persistence and success initiatives. Our comprehensive lifecycle programming includes major campus initiatives such as orientation, the Academic Planning Seminar, the Military Support and Engagement Committee, underrepresented student support, and first-generation student support among other cross-divisional academic and student engagement initiatives. This includes the supervision, development and support of the Transition and Success Coordinator and Second Year, Transfer and Mentoring Programs Coordinator who directly run many of these initiatives.

The ASC is a central hub of student support in a newly designed, state of the art facility providing services like tutoring, student accessibility services, academic advisement, success skills workshops, student success interventions and transition programs like orientation and a first-year seminar class. Developing a sense of belonging and recognizing the needs of a diverse student body is at the core of all ASC initiatives. Programs within the Academic Success Center have been recognized as national best practices with a rich history of starting as a pilot school for the John Gardner Institute Foundation of Excellence Program.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student success, transition programs, or orientation management at a college or university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct professional supervisory experience.
  • Experience developing, organizing, and administering budgets.
  • Experience in formulating student outreach initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student success or transition programs at a college or university.
  • Experience managing a budget over $50,000.
  • Strong management of multiple functional areas and organization of institutional resources to meet goals and objectives.
