Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing leadership and management to the Cardinal Learning Commons (CLC), including CLC courses, First Year Experience, Summer Bridge, Retention and Completion, and academic support programs, in collaboration with all educational and student support units at the college. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure high quality curriculum, academic support programs and services as part of the college mission as an open access institution. The division will be a vital contributor to the preparation, retention and completion of all students to achieve their educational goals. Teaching in the program is a required component of the Director‘s responsibility for ensuring quality student learning outcomes.

Job Duties:
This list includes, but is not limited to the following:
Program Director Essential Functions:

  • Supervises curriculum design and delivery to meet defined educational outcomes, including, but not limited to first year experience, and academic preparedness by drawing on the latest research and best practice on persistence and student success. Aligns academic support practices across the institution in collaboration with key areas such as math, English and science.
  • Develops or revises curriculum with faculty that is consonant with current student and institutional needs based on continuous evaluation of efficacy for educational outcomes.
  • Implements appropriate assessment of overall program effectiveness, including all forms of instruction, academic support, and other services that may be incorporated into the division’s responsibilities.
  • Communicates effectively with college division chairs, instructors, Adult Education Center, outreach centers and staff in Student Services to maintain consistency and continuity of instruction.
  • Provides professional development for all instructors and staff, including those who may provide consulting, tutoring, and peer tutoring, and is an active contributor to other professional development programs campus wide related to instruction, retention and student success.
  • Provides direct supervision to instructors and staff and is responsible for hiring, performance appraisals and any corrective action related to performance of employees.
  • Develops and manages program budgets utilizing guidelines provided by the state of Idaho and North Idaho College.
  • Seeks additional sources of revenue through private and public grants to ensure program sustainability.
  • Serves on committees and related administrative assignments as assigned by supervisor.
  • Understands and demonstrates a commitment to the mission and core values of the college.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and work relationship with supervisor, college staff, students and the community.


Instructor Essential Functions (at least 20% of total position but not more than 25%):

  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods to provide effective instruction, relevant approaches for the diverse preparation and experience of learners, using current classroom technologies as appropriate.
  • Confers with students and student advisors on regular basis to review student progress, re-evaluate goals, provide feedback and guidance.
  • Partners with peer tutors to facilitate student learning as appropriate.
  • Maintains all student records (grade and progress reporting, etc.) and prepares syllabi and teaching materials according to college requirements.
  • Receives training in and keeps skills current in using the electronic and physical equipment and software necessary to accomplishing teaching responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience : Master’s Degree in Education, Student Development, Student Service Administration or any content field taught at the college and a minimum of three years full-time equivalent relevant administrative experience is required, preferably in higher education or in programs that support higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Skill in budget preparation and budget management
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of grant proposal preparation
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of program management
• Ability to conduct effective presentations and trainings
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to supervise staff including training and performance evaluation
• Proficient skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to operate or learn enterprise college systems including student information systems
• Ability to occasionally travel to outreach centers
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, fax, copier
