Statement of Job:

The Art Department at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for Part-Time Faculty position in Digital Art and Design. The job will begin Spring 2022 with subsequent semesters TBD.

Responsibilities :

We seek collegially-minded digital creatives emphasizing strong visual arts sensibilities; a command of current technologies and software platforms; ability to combine digital and traditional approaches in instruction; excellent communication skills; ability to motivate a diverse student body.

The applicant will be required to teach two courses:

ART 222 Digital Art & Design
The course provides an overview of elements, principles and theories of digital art and design. The class moves from basic principles of 2-D design to animation, interactivity and principles of time-based art.

ART 321 Exploring Time-Based Art & Design
This course uses digital media to explore creative concepts, tools and processes in time-based art and design. The focus will be on broadening the concept of digital media through experimentation with interactivity and installation.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

Preferred candidates should have an MFA or equivalent degree and 3 years teaching at a university level.

Qualifications for this position include knowledge of digital art and design and its role in contemporary visual art and culture. An active professional creative practice, and the ability to address work across disciplines, as our students often push disciplinary boundaries.
